What are the Symptoms of Atopic Eczema?
Symptoms of Atopic Eczema:
As such Atopic Eczema or Dermatitis has characteristic clinical symptoms and signs which includes,
- Dry Skin, Itchy Skin, Itching and scratching damages skin and cause further itching and damage.
- Redness and Inflammation of Skin,
- Most common site: Skin creases like front of elbow and wrist, back of knee
- Long standing itching and scratching make it thick and hard. All these symptoms are of one time attack of Allergic reaction but signs and symptoms of Atopic Eczema tends recur after initial remission.
Here are the Age group wise characteristics of Atopic Dermatitis features:
- Infants: Usually affects cheek first and spares napkin area due to moisture. May have widely distributed lesions.
- Children: Lesion usually thick and very raw looking due to extensive scratching also site of lesion may be more flexor than extensor.
- Adults: Usually majority of Atopic Dermatitis remit by the adulthood but sometime it persist and present as localised lesion at hands, eyelids, flexures, nipples or all of these areas. Also Irritant contact dermatitis also resembles Atopic dermatitis.
