Causes of Atopic Eczema
Most common cause of Atopic Eczema as with majority of diseases is unknown. Main theory proposed is the hypersensitivity. Cells of Immune system causes release of some chemical under skin surface and initiate the process of inflammation. Most important factor for this hypersensitivity is genetic factors and thats why family history of Atopy is very important and found in majority of cases.
Also the increasing prevalence of Atopic Dermatitis is thought to be due to various environmental and occupational factors. Atopic Dermatitis is also very common in people whi have other atopic disease like Asthma and Hay fever.
Key Factors:
- Irritants: All the irritants to skin can either precipitate or worsens Atopic Eczema. Such irritants are solvents, soaps, detergents, fragrances, some ingredients in skin care products, some fabrics, and smoke.
- Dry Skin: Dry skin also is very important factor contributing for Atopic Eczema. Dry skin increases itching and scratching.
- Other Factors: Allergies, Cold weather, heat and sweating, Skin infection, Emotions and Stress are important factors that may directly or indirectly increases the effect of Atopic Dermatitis. Also changes in climate, pollution, allergies to house dust mite or pollens, diet, infections are also clamed to be important factors.
