Ankylosing Spondylitis Treatment
Main objectives of treatment are pain control, mobilization and prevent deformities.
Role of Exercise in Ankylosing Spondylitis:
regualr exercise helps reduce pain, prevents stiffness and formation of deformity. Basic exercises helps lot by keeping spine mobile and flexible. Take Physiotherapist advice for the types of exercise.
Role of Medications in Ankylosing Spondylitis:
Anti- Inflammatory Drugs: Are used for symptomatic relief only but it doesnt cure the disease. Ibuprofen, Diclofenac are the antiinflammatory drugs.
Painkillers like paracetamol is also useful in combination with anti-inflammatory.
Newly studied TNF Antagonist are also useful but their use is limited because of need of regular monitoring, injectable form and side-effects.
