Ankylosing Spondylitis: Signs and Symptoms
- Ankylosing Spondylitis Pain (Back Pain): Pain is usually at lower back and it starts usually very slowly and increases its intensity day by day. All the movement that mobilize spine usually increases pain and pain is usually worse in the morning.
- Ankylosing Spondylitis Stiffness: Stiffness in the morning is also very common especially of lower back and it decreases as the day goes on.
- Ankylosing Spondylitis:Joint Involvement Sometimes other part of body also gets involved like various other joints and ligaments. Most commonly affected is Achilles Tendon and it causes difficulty in walking and heal pain. Very occasionally it involves muscles which helps in respiration and may reduce your respiratory efficiency.
- Ankylosing Spondylitis: Extra Articular Menifestation Uveitis ( inflamation of uvea) causes painful and red eye. Also Bowel inflammation (ulcerative colitis), fatigue, weight loss and apetite loss are also common.
Etiology of Ankylosing Spondylitis: Causes
What causes AS is very common question every patient asks but unfortunately the exact cause of AS is Unknown. It is been studied that there is definately a high tendency to develop AS in family and that suggest that it may have some genetic role. HLA-B27 gene is found in almost all patient of Ankylosing Spondylitis.
