Structure of Vertebral Collumn

All the spines are interconnected with each other by somewhat solid tissues called discs and ligaments. Inflammation around this tissues on a long term can damage this tissues as well as articular surface of spine. If this process continues after a certain period of time both spines fuse with each other and thats why it is called ankylosing. New bone formation needed to heal the inflamation is the ususal cause of this fusion.
