Air Freshner and Lung Damage

IT has been speculated for last few years that chemical in Air Freshner might have some bad effects on lung function and morphology but till now we did not have any solid evidence to proove it. But now we have two sets of studies which gives strong indication that these speculations or true and Air freshners indeed damages ypour lung function.

A study published in Environmental Health Perspectives, followed 953 Americans, average age 37, for six years and an another study published in journal Thorax last year both has more or less similar results. Earlier study found out that higher the levels of 1,4-DCB in blood more the damage and has prooved that with high levels of this chemical reduces lung function by 10 % that in those who have law levels. Latter study showed result that risk of Asthma increses with incresing level of this compound in blood.

1,4-dichlorobenzene is common in many of the routinely used products like air freshner, mothballs, tobacco smoke and toilet deodorizers. Also NIH study published that this compound can cause slightly reduction in lung function. But to avoid what you can do is just to minimize the exposure and use of such products.
