Risk Factors for Cervical Cancer

  • Cervical Cancer as such has been reported to have many risk factors and some of them have very good background evidence and some them do not have strong evidence. Following are the risk factors which are thought be associated with increase risk of developing cervical cancer:
  • Early onset of sexual activity, Multiple sexual partners, a high-risk sexual partner (eg, promiscuous sexual activity, sexual exposure to a partner with human papillomavirus infection)
  • History of sexually transmitted diseases (eg, Chlamydia trachomatis, herpes simplex virus),
  • Smoking, Prolonged use of oral contraceptives
  • High number of pregnancy and deliveries
  • Human Papilloma Virus (HPV) infection
