Is your baby crying due to Tummy Pain?
Excessive crying is a major manifestation in majority of diseases of newborn babies and due to lack of speech it is very difficult to recognize where exactly the problem is. Tummy Pain or Abdominal Pain is one of the important cause of excessive crying in small children.
What causes Abdominal Pain in babies?
It is often hard to find out exactly why a child has a stomachache. Knowing where the pain is and how much pain your child has is helpful. Very young children may not be able to tell you where the stomach hurts or how bad it hurts. Common causes of stomachache in children are:

- Hunger
- Stomach “flu†(gastroenteritis)
- Constipation
- Drinking cow’s milk if your child has a lactose intolerance
What is to be done and treatment of Tummy Pain?
Treatment is based on the most likely cause of the stomachache. Common treatments include:
• Rest and relaxation
• Regularly scheduled meals
• Bland diet (no spicy or greasy foods)
• Plenty of fluids (drinking enough water is very important)
• Medicines like pain relievers or antacids. Ask your child’s health care provider first.
• Your child’s health care provider may recommend laxatives if constipation is a problem.
Contact your doctor if you notice any danger signs like fever, vomitting, bloody diarrhoea, abnormal behavior.
